What is Android Auto and how can I use it?

Note: Wondery app compatibility with Android Auto is currently being released gradually. Some customers may not yet have access to this feature. We appreciate your patience during the phased rollout.

 

Android Auto allows you to safely and conveniently access your Wondery content through your car's display screen. By connecting your Android phone to a compatible vehicle, you can enjoy your favorite podcasts through your car's audio system while keeping your focus on the road.

 

Getting Started

Requirements

  • Android phone
  • Wondery app version 1.88.0 or newer
  • Vehicle with Android Auto compatibility
  • Active Wondery account
  • Internet connection (except for downloaded content)

Steps

  1. Ensure you're logged into the Wondery app on your phone
  2. When the Android Auto notification appears in the Wondery app, select 'Android Settings', scroll down and select Wondery, then enable 'Allow to display over other apps' (Note: this is referred to as 'Draw over other apps' on some devices)

  3. Connect your phone to your car via USB or wireless connection (if supported)
    • The app should appear in your car's Android Auto interface
    • Note: The Wondery app will automatically launch and minimize on your phone

Using Wondery on Android Auto

Navigation

Access content through three main screens:

  • Home: Browse featured content and recommendations
  • My Shows: Access your followed shows
  • Downloads: Find your downloaded episodes for offline listening

Playback Features

  • Play/Pause
  • Fast forward 30 seconds
  • Rewind 15 seconds
  • Drag or tap the progress bar to move to different parts of the episode
  • View episode information including:
    • Episode title
    • Show title
    • Progress and duration
    • Release date or season/episode number

Additional Features

  • Use the Now Playing button to return to your current episode (button with 3 vertical bars)
  • Search within screens using the A-Z search button
